Afro-Cuban Dance

Who am I?

I was a big dreamer as a little girl. I wanted to be a lawyer, a nurse… but I also danced everywhere, even to the sound of the washing machine! Haha. At just 4 years old, I joined my daycare’s dance group, where we competed at the Pan American Village and won first place! At 5, I started gymnastics, and from then on, I immersed myself in anything related to dance. At 8, my dad taught me how to dance casino (Cuban salsa), and that same year, I learned to ride his bike. I fell many times, but I still loved it! Haha. By 12, I was performing with Narciso Medina’s dance group and attending technique classes at the National Theater. At 14, I auditioned and was accepted into the National School of Performing Arts, better known as Variedades. There, I trained in everything a versatile dancer needs: all national and international styles, ballet, dance technique, folklore, modeling, singing, makeup, and of course, regular subjects like math, English, history, and physics. It was intense but absolutely amazing and unforgettable! When I started teaching in Vancouver and saw that my students were truly learning from me, I was fascinated.

What keeps me teaching is the feeling that I now have a mission: to show that it’s never too late to dance. I absolutely love changing people’s lives through dance. The energy I bring to class is unmatched—I’m funny, a little crazy, a bit silly… and because of all that (and more), you’re going to love my classes! Personally? I’m simple, a little shy, and I laugh at the silliest things. I love making jokes, having deep conversations, and being honest. I’m strict but also incredibly affectionate, kind, and fearless. Helping others brings me so much joy. I have two wonderful, loving, and intelligent children who I love more than life itself. A little secret about me: ✨ I’m addicted to cheese. ✨ I smell everything before tasting it.

✨ I have a weakness for perfumes, handbags, and shoes. ✨ Music and dancing anywhere and everywhere bring pure happiness to my soul. I’m the founder, artistic director, and choreographer of Elegancia Cubana, a dance academy where you not only learn to dance but also learn to love yourself exactly as you are. To build your confidence and embrace your own beauty. If you made it this far, I’m sending you a huge hug filled with gratitude for your constant support.

“Dance is not just what I do—it’s who I am. And through it, I share my heart with the world.”
