Argentine Tango Lab was founded in 2011 by the dance instructor and performer Gabriel Monty. His professional dance experience started in 1978 when he joined Doina Bucurestiului, the most prominent dance company back then. He fell in love with Argentine tango about 17 years ago and was fascinated by the music and the dance itself. Since then, Gabriel visits Buenos Aires frequently competing in the World Tango Dance Championship (El Campeonato Mundial de Baile de Tango) and performing in famed milongas.
Sigita has joined the company a couple of years ago after intensive training in Buenos Aires. Being surrounded by music and playing musical instruments since her childhood, it drew her towards Argentine tango dance that became her biggest passion.
Together they have been involved in various festivals, shows, community events in British Columbia, Canada and often travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina to enjoy and explore Argentine tango.
Argentine Tango Lab started in Vancouver, BC with the idea to become a dance “laboratorio” for all dance lovers who would like to learn the Dance of Embraces, Argentine tango, in the way is taught in Buenos Aires. Gabriel and Sigita love to share their experience by helping their students to find the quality, connection and self-expression in dance. Their professional training is focusing on personalizing the teaching to reflect each person’s individual needs and guiding them through their own unique journey of getting to know Argentine tango.
Community relationships have been an important part of the company’s growth by welcoming other artists from different genres, dance forms and styles. Argentine Tango Lab continues to build strong relationships in developing new art creations.
