Waterfront Theatre, Vancouver
In 2017 Latincouver proudly presents in the Latin American Week, the 150 years of Canadian and Latin History Event in honor to Canada, a country that has open new opportunities for the Latin American Culture.
This multicultural night will highlight 4 featured activities focused on the Latin American and Canadian relationship, engaging and developing an involvement for the community to learn about stories, legends and experiences from Canadians and Latin Americans in the past 150 years.
150 Years of Canadian and Latin History – The Prologue
As a kick-off for this project, we will present the prologue of the book – going over all the political, social, economical and cultural connections that were created from this relationship, our communities will have the opportunity to input and collaborate with personal stories, game changing experiences in Canada, and most important, how fulfilling and empowering living in Canada and British Columbia can be for a Latino.
Latin Legends Storytellers
In the second part of the night, 5 to 10 Latinos will reach up our podium to tell their personal stories since they first came to Canada – and other Invited speakers to tell the actual legends from Canada and Latin, and their similarities. Our team will coach those new storytellers, trying to find what is the most important part of their roots, and how their stories can lead into an education and inspiring moment for Canadians and Latinos.
Latincouver will invite Latin Photographers and challenge them to express their vision on what means to be a Latino in Canada. The results will be first seen on this event, and showcased on the International Art Plaza during Carnaval del Sol too.
The Photographer Marcos Badra (check his profile here), from Argentina, has created the first Latincouver’s original photo exhibition for this event, and will be presenting all the pieces and explaining his concept and creation.
Latin Youth Video Contest
Your point of view can inspire a lot of people around Canada – we all want to show how powerful our voices are, through a Video Contest – launched on April, we invited the youth to create a video, and during this night, we will screen and announce the TOP three winners.
