Vancouver producer and musician Malcolm Aiken is proud to join the team at Latincouver as this year’s Artist Programmer for the 2017 Carnaval del Sol. He’s performed with Chucho Valdez, Jimmy Bosch, Noel Gallagher among others, and will bring his experience as a international touring artist and world music manager to the live music stage.
He’s excited to bring to the festival top international talent, local favorites and to support new up and coming bands in a diverse and engaging weekend of live music performances. Born in the city of Cordoba, Argentina, Marcos Badra has been working with graphic design and photography for over 20 years. He has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, graduating from Blas Pascal University in 2005. He was awarded the honorific title of “Master Degree in Business Leadership” by The World Confederation of Business in Huston, Texas because of the results he achieved in the Educational Sciences Inter-American Foundation. He is currently working toward a Master’s in International Cooperation Projects at FUNIBER University which will be completed in 2017.
Pirate Delsol was born in Canada but has his roots are in Colombia. At 12 starting with the xylophone and the microphone, it was his first ‘kiss’ with music.
He diverted to baseball and was approached by the Baltimore Orioles, but returned to his love of music and he’s been singing now since he was 18. “It’s just passion, the way for me to deliver what’s hiding in me, and when I get the microphone it’s like an explosion – the shy guy goes out, and I’m just ‘bang’, I just love it.”
Pirate Delsol sings in French, English and Spanish. Known for being a key player in the reggaeton scene and the first who did it in Canada – rap/Latino mixed with meringue – Carnaval del Sol 2017 will be his live comeback since releasing his album in 2016.
Pirate Delsol is the musician behind Carnaval del Sol’s anthem, which you can hear live on stage Saturday.

The company entered a new international phase touring its award-winning production Mis Hermanas in Mexico in 2010, for which Artistic Director Rosario Ancer was awarded the Isadora Award for Excellence in Choreography; she was also honored with The Mayor’s Arts Award 2012” in Dance, as one who captures Vancouver’s rich history and culture, and for making a significant contribution to the creative life in the city and enriching the lives of Vancouver citizens.
As part of Made In BC touring initiatives for contemporary dance, Mis Hermanas completed a spring tour in of 2013 in British Columbia, and the Yukon, to critical acclaim. The company it’s been also selected to tour through British Colombia one of its recent works “La Monarca: The Monarch and The Butterfly Effect” in the spring of 2018.
Flamenco Rosario is known for its spirited, fiery, creative and original performances and collaborations. The company continues to honor both the rich flamenco tradition and to produce presentations, which stretch the boundaries and evolution of the art form.
